Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka with President Uhuru Kenyatta
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is reportedly part of the delegation that accompanied President Uhuru Kenyattaduring his trip to China.
According to the Star, Wiper Executive Director Jared Siso indicated that Uhuru is likely to have settled on consulting Kalonzo due to his long experience as Vice President and the fact that he is a knowledgeable senior citizen.
"I don’t think when such a thing happens it is not out of the normal. The President can wish to consult anybody and if he deems fit to have Kalonzo in his delegation why not?" Siso posed.
Siso, however, declined to divulge information about the former Vice President’s role stating: "I can confirm is that the Party leader is out of the country. From my end, I think I will leave it at that.
The Star further indicates that Kalonzo's hotel was booked by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside other members of the delegations.
Sources indicate that the Wiper leader left the country on Friday 31 August and is expected back in the country on September 6.
The Forum on Chino-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing saw Chinese President Xi Jinping offer $60 billion in financing for Africa.
"The money will be channelled to projects aligned to the Chinese Government’s Belt and Road Initiative covering telecommunication, construction of roads, bridges and seaports, energy, and human capacity development," Uhuru revealed.
Besides, Jinping wrote off some debt for poorer African nations and warned the Heads of State against using the money to fund “vanity projects”.
During the FOCAC Summit, Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line from Mombasa to Nairobi was listed as one of the key success stories from the China-Africa partnership.
