Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga
The former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Saturday broke his silence on some leaders in the opposition, more significantly the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party's latest actions.
Speaking during the homecoming ceremony of Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga in Alego, Raila expressed concern after his party and close allies rose to defend corruption suspects.
The ODM party leader cautioned the leaders against rushing to defend those arrested in the recent corruption purge warning that some of his friends could soon be nabbed.
"The current war on corruption will lead to the arrest of many people because we are out to sanitize the country. So do not be in a hurry to defend those under investigation, let the courts do their job,” cautioned Mr Odinga.
He maintained that the recent arrests were part of the building bridges initiative between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta affirming that it has no personal attacks.
"We are determined on cleaning the country and this is why I have kept quiet even when some of my friends are affected. You should not be afraid, we are not on a witch hunt and one will be unfairly targeted," stated ODM partly leader.
Raila's remarks come barely three days after his own ODM party's brazen attack on the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
On Tuesday ODM issued a statement terming the arrest and intended prosecution of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu as the state now "revisiting the judiciary."
The sentiments were equally shared by Siaya Senator James Orengo who is leading at least 34 lawyers comprising of three other Senators and several opposition MPs in Mwilu's defense team.
Orengo who was present when Raila made the remarks cautioning against defending suspects in corruption matters stated that justice will be defended in a fair and transparent manner.
"Raila and Uhuru will not side with those found guilty on corruption allegations. This shows how they are determined to do things in a correct manner and we will not let anyone politicize the war on corruption," held Orengo.
