Aston Villa supporters fought among themselves as their side were humbled 4-1 by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
The visitors were 3-0 down inside the first half and fans turned on each other as pressure on boss Steve Bruce increased.
One supporter was knocked to the ground by a punch with multiple supporters seen engaging in the violence at the Bramall Lane end of Sheffield United's stadium.
The result left Villa 12th in the Championship with just two wins from their opening six games, while the Blades are third and only two points off the top.
Jack O'Connell headed United in front after just six minutes before Mark Duffy doubled their advantage midway through the first half.
Oliver Norwood scored his first Blades goal four minutes before the break which saw an outbreak of discontent from the away end.

Billy Sharp made it four shortly after the break before Anwar El Ghazi netted a consolation for Villa.
After the game, Bruce said: “We had four or five that haven’t trained all week and because of the performance at Burton I wasn’t prepared to play them. I’m not making excuses."
Some fans chanted 'you're getting sacked in the morning' towards the beleaguered Villa boss, and he responded: "You’ve got to accept the flack that comes your way. Whether that’s going to be the case, I sincerely hope not.
“I can understand their frustration. It was only two weeks ago they were saying it’s the best we’ve seen Aston Villa playing for years. We will get better the longer it goes. I’m convinced at that.”
