The decision to strip Paul Pogba of captain's privileges on Tuesday is just the latest in a series of incidents that have left senior players at Manchester United "angry and frustrated" with Jose Mourinho and his combative approach, sources told ESPN FC's Mark Ogden.
Another source told ESPN that Mourinho only retains the support of a "handful" of players.
Other sources revealed certain players will reconsider their future at the club if the atmosphere remains the same.
Pogba was held out of Tuesday's League Cup defeat to Derby County hours after Mourinho stripped the Frenchman of the vice-captaincy. Reports suggest the Portuguese manager wanted to assert his authority and put Pogba in his place.
Despite the potential for a dressing-room split, it's believed United chairman Ed Woodward is "100 percent" behind Mourinho. The hope, according to Ogden, is that Mourinho has the skills to "turn the situation around."
The mood appeared to worsen on Wednesday when Sky Sports cameras recorded an uneasy conversation between Mourinho and Pogba. At one point, the manager is heard telling the midfielder to "get out."
