Leicester City's attempt to prevent Manchester United from pursuing Harry Maguire this summer could result in a significant pay increase for the English defender.
Maguire earned plenty of praise for his impressive display at the World Cup in Russia, where he played a pivotal role in the heart of Gareth Southgate's backline during England's journey to the semi-final.
Days after England bowed out of the tournament, Leicester City has reportedly begun assembling a new contract that would boost Maguire's weekly earnings to around £80,000 in an attempt to discourage United's rumored interest, according to John Percy of The Telegraph.
Leicester is apparently confident that the centre-back can be convinced to stay at the King Power Stadium for at least another year.
The former Premier League champion is understood to have no interest in a lucrative transfer fee after selling Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City on Tuesday for a reported £60 million.
Maguire signed a five-year contract following his transfer from Hull City last summer in a move that cost the Foxes £17 million. He enjoyed a successful debut season that culminated in the 25-year-old being named the Player of the Season, as well as the Players' Player of the Season.
He ended his first campaign by linking up with the English national team. He scored a goal and provided an assist in Russia while starting all but one match during his first World Cup.
