Mourinho: Darmian offers 'not even close' to valuation

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed defender Matteo Darmian can leave the club, but insisted all offers received so far for the Italian have been considerably below the club's valuation.

"Matteo wants to leave and I think when a player wants to leave, if the right offer arrives, you have to try to be human and let the player follow his instinct - but not at any price," Mourinho told reporters, per Reuters.

"Until now, the offers we got for Matteo are not even close to being accepted."

According to the Guardian's Jamie Jackson, Mourinho did leave the door open for Darmian to stay. "So, if Matteo leaves he leaves because the right offer arrives and if he stays, he can be important for us."

Darmian joined United in 2015 from Serie A side Torino for a reported £12.7 million when the Red Devils were managed by Louis van Gaal. He featured heavily during his debut season, impressing on the right side of defense.

However, under Mourinho, the 28-year-old's United career has regressed to the point where the Italian international appeared just eight times in the Premier League last term. Though his versatility allows him to play on both flanks, he is now behind club captain Antonio Valencia and summer signing Diogo Dalot for the right-back slot. Italian champions Juventus have been credited with an interestin signing Darmian.
