Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has said only President Uhuru Kenyatta has the master stroke to save his deputy from the political thunderbolt he is currently facing.

Khalwale said only the voice of Uhuru will reassure Deputy President William Ruto's supporters all is well with their 2022 preferred presidential candidate.

The Jubilee party has faced turbulent times which have seen key supporters of Uhuru from Central Kenya and Ruto's allies differ over the president's succession plan.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Thursday, July 5, in an interview monitored by TUKO.co.ke, Khalwale concluded all was well in Jubilee and that only Uhuru who was the party leader could calm the storm by assuring Ruto of his backing in 2022.

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen an ally of the DP indicating all was not well in Jubilee because some top officials close to the president were planning to scuttle Ruto's succession of Uhuru.

"It is all evident there is a looming division in the party. Ruto's supporters have all the time lamented there were internal plans to frustrate him. The DP should call on his troops to back down from advocating for him. He should simply ask the president to throw in a good statement for him," said Khalwale.

The former legislator observed leaders supporting Ruto and his political base in general were not sure of whether it was true Uhuru was aware of a scheme to oust Ruto.

"A statement from Uhuru backing Ruto will end the rumours and narratives that there was a split in Jubilee. Currently the people are confused and statements from leaders other than Uhuru don't help much," he said.

The senator argued the Friday, March 9, handshake between Uhuru and the opposition leader Raila Odinga could have largely contributed to the discomfort in Jubilee, putting Ruto in an awkward situations.

There have been complaints from Ruto's camp over Raila's new found friendship with Uhuru.

Some of Ruto's lieutenants had expressed displeasure in how the president was delegating some duties which could have been done by the DP or Cabinet Secretaries to the former premier, who they have referred to as a homewrecker out to finish Jubilee.

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura likened Ruto and Raila to two bulls which could not share one kraal.

Khalwale however challenged the DP's die hard supporters to change tact if they are to survive the impending split

"I want to urge RIft Valley MPs to focus more on tactics rather than use a lot of energy politicking and causing friction," Khalwale advised.
