Barcelona make stunning Vidal swoop

If recent history is any indication, Barcelonaare poised to claim a fourth La Liga crown in five years after luring perennial league champ Arturo Vidal to the Camp Nou.

The mohawked Chilean has won seven league titles on the spin with Juventus and more recently Bayern Munich, and the safe money will be on Vidal to make that eight with Friday's move from the Bavarian behemoth to the Catalan capital.

"FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Arturo Vidal," a statement on Barcelona's website reads. "The agreement is for the next three seasons and is pending the medical examination that the player will undertake over the course of the next few days."

A blockbuster move that seemingly surfaced out of nothing, Vidal, 31, was heavily linked with a summer switch to Inter until the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano and Ed Aaronsrevealed Barcelona's £27-million interest in the player.

It wouldn't be the first time that Barcelona have swooped in for a player destined for Italy's top flight after La Blaugrana snatched winger Malcom from Roma's grip last week. Vidal and Malcom account for half of Ernesto Valverde and Co.'s summer recruitment drive, with Brazilian Arthur and French center-half Clement Lenglet also joining the ranks.

Best suited to reprise the tenacious box-to-box role he excelled at whilst with Juventus, Vidal's addition will help cover for the departures of Andres Iniesta and Paulinho.
