Man United Almost Complete Third Signing

MANCHESTER UNITED will rival Manchester City for Harry Maguire once Daniel James and Sean Longstaff are signed, according to reports.

Manchester United are set to sign James from Swansea over the next few days after a fee of £15million was agreed between the two clubs.

The youngster is keen to make the move to Old Trafford and is expected to be the first part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rebuilding puzzle.

Manchester United are also hoping to secure the services of Newcastle ace Longstaff, who is highly-rated.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez would, ideally, like to keep hold of the midfield maestro who has impressed when called upon this season.

But the Telegraph say that developments regarding a transfer are expected over the next few days.

And, once Longstaff and James sign on the dotted line, they say that United want to land Maguire.

Talk of the England international moving to the Red Devils is nothing new.

Jose Mourinho wanted Maguire when he was United manager a year ago.

But Leicester slapping a huge £75million price tag on the defender deterred them from signing the England international.

A year on, though, and United are ready to rival Manchester City for the centre-back.

Whether Solskjaer can land the 26-year-old ahead of Pep Guardiola, though, remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop believes Maguire would thrive at United.

“I think he’d be a hit,” Hislop said of Maguire.

“I liked this link when it first cropped up, what, 12 months ago.

“I continue to like it even though I will say that Solskjaer’s gotten a lot better return out of the centre-halves that he has at his disposal now.

“But I think Maguire continues to grow in confidence and stature in the English game.

“I’m not sure that Manchester United have the centre-backs that they want to stay with long term.

“So as a result, as much improved as United’s centre-backs have been, I still think this is a good fit, and I’ll put that down as a hit.

“I think Maguire has improved and this is a good acquisition for Manchester United."
