EPL & LA Liga : Which dominate the best club team and players

It's just a bad phase for English football in general. Every country has gone through such a phase at least once in their footballing history. Netherlands, who had great teams like Ajax, are now non existent on the Champions League stage. Even traditional Italian heavyweights like Inter and AC Milan are struggling to qualify to a competition that that they thrived in just recently (Inter 7 years ago and Milan 10 years ago). I would like to point out some points as to why English footballs importance is diminishing on the international stage :

They can't keep hold of their star players : The last two superstars in English football, Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez were sold to Real and Barcelona respectively for huge sums. Real Madrid seem to be interested in Eden Hazard and David De Gea as well. If either of them have a great 2017–18 season, Real will definitely swoop in. Even Harry Kane and Deli Alli could move if any Madrid come calling.

Quality of players : When was the last time any player from the Premier League finished in the top 3 of the Ballon d'or ? From 2000–2009 we had great players like Lampard, Gerrard, Torres, Ronaldo, Henry etc playing in the Premier League. Ronaldo, in 2008, was the last player from a Premier League team to win a Ballon d'or. And that says a lot.

Tight schedule : Premier League clubs who finish in the top 4 have to play in 4 competitions next year. Couple that with a tight schedule in December, many players get fatigued or injured. Also, the smaller teams in the league also pack a punch so teams cannot afford to play their B team. Of course, if they had a stronger bench it would be easier, and so this is a direct consequence of point 2.

It was in 2009 when a Steven Gerrard inspired Liverpool thrashed Real Madrid. Fast forward 8 years, Real have won two back to back Champions League titles but Liverpool are struggling to make it to the Champions League consistently. Manchester United doesn't look like their old self and Manchester City have problems of their own. Chelsea look good but need to buy better players to have a chance in the UCL next year.

But what we know about English teams is that they never ever give up. United in 1999, Liverpool in 2005 and Chelsea in 2012. They may have not had the best teams in those campaigns, but the sheer believe they showcased was second to none. I still believe English teams will make a comeback and bring the glory days back to England.

The intense League Competition kills English Football teams and additionally the whole Premier League season fixtures are also not well laid out.

The Premier league is one of the most competitive and unpredictable leagues where you find teams like Leicester City winning the league whereas in La Liga there are only 3–4 clubs competing for the title every year.

The reason behind the competitiveness and unpredictability of Premier League is equal distribution of TV Money among the clubs which allows Premier League teams to buy some good and competitive players which provides them an equal chance to challenge for the top four.

Let me share you the list of TV rights distributions of both leagues.

English Premier League.

La Liga BBVA.

One can easily observe the difference.

Less Money means Less Competitive(not generalizing though).

As a result La Liga is all about some few important matches and that’s it. Due to which these 38 matches in a season is not a big burden for the players whereas in Premier League every 3 point requires so much effort that by the end of the season they can’t compete in the final stages of Champions League and holding up star players is also big challenge for Premier League Clubs because all Players dream to kiss the champions league Cup and so Premier League top guns going for Real Madrid,Barcelona,Bayern Munich reduce the probablity of winning the cup even more.

Its foolish to talk about intensity of La liga. The people who have written answer seldom watch La Liga. I guess they rarely notice the way teams press, cover the distance in La liga.

Yes bottom clubs in England give tough competition to top clubs but dont under estimate clubs in la liga

Deportivo Alaves who were promoted into first division in 16–17 finished the season within top ten. They reached Cup final. They defeated Barcelona in home. Made Real, Atletico to suffer against them.

I have to remind them that Barcelona were defeated by Deportivo La Coruna, Celta da Vigo, Deportivo Alaves, Real Betis Malaga etc

Real lost to Celta, Valencia etc and won many matches in the dying minutes. Atletico struggled in away matches. Sevilla, who were in title race at one stage were outclassed by many teams in the later stages of La liga

I have to remind many people that Cup competition in Spain is a two legged tie unlike in England where it is just one legged tie. People notice that the no. of matches played by Celta , Sevilla, Real, Barca,Atletico, Atleti etc are over 50-55 and may be 1 or 2 matches less than most played EPL clubs.

People should notice that Squad depth of La Liga teams are very poor (except Real Madrid whose bench alone can win La liga), resources of Liga teams are poor and yet La liga teams compete and play almost same no. of matches as EPL clubs. Its because clubs have continuous supply of youth players from B teams. Unlike in England where there is separate league for reserve teams Spainish reserve team competes in 2 division or 3 division. Youth players coming to first team already have exposure to competitiveness, intensity, physicality required etc for first team.

It all comes down to the desires, passion, ambition of these two(now 3–4) club rather than those lame excuses given by people.

If Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool , Spurs etc club go trophyless in 1–2 season fans understand it and appreciate the teams efforts. But things won't work in Spain the same way.

Eg- 1.Real sacked Benitez even though Real were 2 in la liga title race.

2. Luis Enrique even though he won treble and double in previous seasons he was massacred by press and fans after 4–0 defeat to PSG.

Fans will throw stones to Club presidents house if they go trophyless in any season.

Everything boils down to the ambition of these two clubs along with quality of players (who can individually win game ) these two Clubs have.

The fact that every single one of the last 12 European and international club trophies: Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA World Club Cup - have been won by La Liga clubs is sufficient testimony to the fact that the Spanish teams are dominating in Europe. This is not without reason. The Spanish teams are better than the English teams primarily because:

i) They rely on superb scouting, locally developed talent and admirable tactics. Not long balls, 100 miles-per-hour football or Gladiator-like physicality.

ii) English sides appear to have forgotten how to defend in recent seasons. That should explain how even teams like Arsenal concede 10 goals over 2 games.

iii) Spanish teams arguably have a greater game quality, are more organized and are benefited by the presence of top mega superstars like Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar, that English football has been lacking in the past few seasons.

iv) La Liga is not too behind these days. in terms of unpredictability. You often see even the best teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico lose poorly against teams like Malaga, Alaves, Las Palmas or Eibar. Any English team will struggle against them too. Man Utd luckily scored one goal over Celta Vigo or they were destined to crash out of the Europa League as well.

Because Spaniards are richer.Why?

If you look closely most English clubs have a rich owner e.g Abramovich and rely on his funds while if you look closely even though Barca and Real's chairmen are rich most of the money comes from Arabia and is more than the single owners of English teams could afford. For example Man C got funded from the East and did a good job in CL .

Another reason is that most Spanish teams rely on Spanish players while English teams on players from all around the world .As a sport soccer is more popular on a youth level in Spain so more children train and then become pros. To add to that because in England the competition is more fierce young players are not given a chance unless they are exceptionally talented and go and play in other countries and do not help teams develop.

English football club were killed by their football association

when you play in English Priemer League, you will get a tight tight schedule. you got too many competition to play with. The FA seems only care with revenues rather than continental result

while Spanish team would play in 3 domestic competition, English team need to compete in 4 domestic competition

during christmast, spanish team player got holiday to refresh their energy. English team didn’t. they named it “boxing days”

result, more matches, less rest, the more you prone to injury. with more player get injury, the team compactness were disrupted. and even your player doesn’t injury, the fatigue were with them, that when you plays againts spanish team, your player will get tired faster

that’s the main problem, and then you got additional problem. EPL team are more equally strong rather than Liga BBVA team

you will see, many times, team like barcelona and real madrid trashing another team with their so called “B team” or reserve team. while in another side, English team ,even with main squad , could get struggled with most of their matches. so the first team player need to play more minutes, more energy.

So it’s mainly the stamina and fitness of English team which cause them weaker. Last 2 years EPL winner are team which compete only in EPL. while in spain, rarely other team aside from barcelona and real madrid won the league
