David de Gea has rejected Manchester United’s final contract offer and now looks set to leave Old Trafford as the club weigh up cashing in on the goalkeeper this summer.
The Spaniard’s current deal with the Red Devils runs out in 2020 after the club activated an automatic one-year extension earlier this season, with talks over a new contract having stalled.
Six-time Player of the Year De Gea has seen the enormous contract handed to Alexis Sanchez and asked for a new deal worth £350,000-a-week to reflect his status in the squad.

However, The Sun report that United made a final offer well below that sum which De Gea has now unequivocally rejected, paving the way for the 28-year-old to leave the club.
De Gea made it clear to United that he has no intension of extending his deal beyond next season under the current terms, with the pressure now on United bosses to either cash in or risk losing him for nothing.
Although De Gea had an underwhelming campaign by his usual high standards, making some high-profile errors, he nevertheless has plenty of suitors from around Europe.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain would be willing to spend £60million to land him despite only having a year left on his contract, while they are also prepared to wait until next summer to snap him up for free if United decide to hang onto their shot-stopper.

De Gea’s teammate and friend Ander Herrera has already reached an agreement with PSG to move to he French capital when his own contract expires at the end of next month.
The news is a huge blow to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hopes of rebuilding United, having counted on the Spaniard as one of the key figures in his team, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League is believed to have contributed to De Gea’s decision not to sign a renewal, and it is possible his final appearances for the Red Devils will have come in an embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City.
