Mohamed Salah‘s late winner against Crystal Palace saw him equal a Premier League record jointly held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie.
Luka Milivojevic’s penalty fired Crystal Palace into a 1-0 lead with just 13 minutes on the clock this afternoon at Selhurst Park.
However, goals from Sadio Mane and Salah secured all three points for the visitors who leapfrogged Manchester United into second in the Premier League.
Salah’s strike has now seen the Egyptian forward equal the goalscoring record of both Ronaldo and van Persie, scoring in the joint-most Premier League games in a single 38-match season.
Salah has played brilliantly this season, scoring 29 goals in 31 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, while he has also scored 37 goals in all competitions.
This equals the number of goals Ronaldo scored in the same number of games during the Portuguese’s 2007/08 season with Manchester United. However, the Egyptian needs just three more to surpass Ronaldo’s joint-record tally for a single 38-game campaign.
The goal has also placed Salah alongside Chelsea legend Didier Drogba for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season by an African player.
Away from the Premier League, the Liverpool forward’s exploits in front of goal have put him ahead of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for this year’s Golden Shoe.
Should he continue to convert at such a rate, he may even be contesting the La Liga duo for next year’s Ballon d’Or.
