kelvin De Bruyne votes Salah for PFA award

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed he voted for Egypt's Mohamed Salah despite vying for the PFA Player of the Year award alongside the Liverpool man.

Salah has enjoyed a dazzling debut campaign at Liverpool, sending records tumbling with his goalscoring exploits, while De Bruyne has been the inspiration behind City's charge towards the Premier League title.

Traditionally the player of the season awards are won by players from the eventual champions and Liverpool are not going to win the league this year. It will be Manchester City, and it could come as soon as Saturday if Pep Guardiola's men beat bitter rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

However, there are historical precedents, like the 1998/99 season when United won their historic treble and the PFA player of the season award went to Tottenham's David Ginola, so Salah certainly can't be ruled out.

Players cannot vote for a player on their own team and De Bruyne has taken the surprising option of voting for his closest rival Salah.

"I voted for Salah. He deserves it. If it's no-one from our team, I think he deserves it.

"I don't look at what happened before, I wouldn't know how to choose anybody else, outside of Salah, if it's not our team." De Bruyne told BT Sport

While Salah has been scoring goals at an unprecedented rate, De Bruyne has been making chances for his teammates all season long.

The Belgian midfielder has scored his fair share as well – his goal tally for the season stands at 11 and includes the winner at Stamford Bridge, the opener against Arsenal and the crucial second against Spurs at Christmas.
