The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to finish the season strongly. It has been a very difficult season for the Blues, but a strong end could serve to reduce Antonio Conte’s blushes.
Realistically, their chances of breaking into the top four are slim. They’re relying on a couple of slip-ups from Tottenham, and in truth, that’s not likely to happen.
Nonetheless, the Blues can’t give up, given what is on the line, and so Antonio Conte must ensure that he gets every decision right between now and the end of the season.
He’s made too many mistakes this season, and he can’t afford any more.
In particular, he needs to ensure that his team selection is spot on. The Blues have a few players that are more deserving of a starting berth than others, and the decision to not start them in a game could be the difference between a win and a loss.
Between now and the end of the season, then, Conte must start these 2 Chelsea players in every game…
Olivier Giroud has really proven his worth at Stamford Bridge since he moved in January.
He scored the opening goal against Southampton at the weekend, and he was the inspiration behind the Blues’ comeback against the same team the week before.
The Frenchman is clearly brimming with confidence, and Antonio Conte must make the most of that.
Alvaro Morata hasn’t been good enough, and so he doesn’t deserve to play.
Though only Chelsea’s vice-captain, Cesar Azpilicueta has been the leader for the Blues this season.
He’s been unstoppable in the defence, and he’s arguably been the one bright spot in the Chelsea backline.
If he plays well, Chelsea generally do as well, and so Antonio Conte needs to rely on the Spaniard.
Regardless of how much football he has played, Chelsea can’t afford to give him a rest at any point, especially given how significant their remaining games are going to be.
