Ghana legend Essien backs under-fire Chelsea manager Conte

Ghana and Chelsea legend Michael Essienbelieves his former side's manager Antonio Conte is still the right man to take the club forward following their disappointing 2017-18 season.

Despite Conte's disastrous second campaign in England this season, Essien who enjoyed nine successful years at Chelsea, has faith in Conte who guided Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season at Stamford Bridge and his squad to turn it around next season.

"This year for whatever reason they are not doing quite well. I mean it’s one of those things in football, you go up and down.

"They still have good players, a great manager to still lead the team.

"We’re all hoping they can finish the season very well." Essien who played on loan at Real Madrid before leaving for Milan after parting ways with Chelsea told the Daily Star

The 58 capped Ghana international who now plies his professional trade with Persib Bandung - a professional football club based in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia won the Premier League twice with Chelsea between 2005 to 2014 as well as four FA Cups.
