Cross River govt insists local government elections will hold in state

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu has insisted that local government elections would be conducted in the state.

Prof. Ivara Esu was addressing newsmen during the commissioning of the Association of Cross River Online journalists, ACROJ’s office in Calabar.

He said, “Cross River State Government will hold Local Government elections, but there are a number of things we are taking into considerations. But I’ll assure you that Local Government elections will hold. It’s exactly when it will hold that I can’t say.”

Similarly, the Deputy Governor said that the State Government was making efforts to ensure all Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs still domiciled at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office get to their respective owners.

“It is just for us to make sure that information gets out to people and to note that it is very important that they must collect their Permanent Voter’s Card. For without it, whatever you’re saying doesn’t make sense, especially now that people cannot do what they used to do in the past by rigging elections and so on.

“These days, everything is going online and everything is going digital, so people must make sure that they collect their Voter’s card.

“Soon after, we are going to go into massive campaign to ensure that from all the wards, we have people to really know who and who hasn’t collected his or her card, so that we’ll make sure efforts are made to reach such persons to collect their cards. It is very important,” Ivara Esu said.
