Iwobi charges Arsenal team-mates on perfect Wenger send-off

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi who is confident he will be fit for Arsenal’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid on Thursday believes outgoing coach Arsene Wenger deserves to end the season on high with UEL trophy still up for grabs.

Arsenal's second leg tie with Atletico in Spain is delicately poised after the Spanish side snatched a late away goal in a 1-1 draw at the Emirates on last Thursday. Antoine Griezmann scored a valuable equaliser with eight minutes remaining to ensure Iwobi and his gang will need to score at least once in Madrid if they are to progress.

Despite the late setback, the 21-year old Nigeria international is confident Arsenal can edge the defensively solid Atletico into the finals and says the squad are determined to send Wenger out in style come May 16, in Lyon.

"We are really motivated - especially by what he has done for the club. We are trying to make him end the season on a high.

"And not just for him but for ourselves as well so we are doing our best to get the result.

"We are very confident. We were unfortunate not to get the result we wanted against them in the first leg but we are very confident and believe we can go to the final." Iwobi told Sky Sports

Iwobi played 90 minutes during the Gunners' 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday despite picking up a hamstring problem during the course of the game. The Arsenal academy product was unable to come off as Wenger had exhausted his substitutes.
