Ekiti delegates celebrate Fayemi’s successful screening

The All Progressives Party (APC) delegatesfor the May 5 Governorship primary that will produce the next party flag bearer for the July14, 2018 governorship election in Ekiti state have celebrated the successful screening of their candidate, Dr John Kayode Fayemi.

Rolling out drums after a meeting by these delegates at a secluded venue in Ado Ekiti, the group who described Fayemi as the “sure candidate” gave glory to God because of the news that the Screening went smoothly against all odds.

A meeting of the the group had been organised at the instance of some leaders of the party in Ado Ekiti under the Chairmanship of Hon Tunde Omotosho, while other members are Alhaji Tunde Onipede, Elder Samuel Ogunsakin and Engr. Niyi Falade.

The meeting which had no fewer than 135 Fayemi’s delegates from Ado Ekiti on seat also had some other delegates at the meeting representing all the 177 wards of the state.

The committee chairman said the gathering which was organised to sensitize the delegates on the need to remain focused, and be vigilant at this eleventh hours was done in view of the noticed desperation of some aspirants to destabilise them having seen that “Fayemi’s delegates are still leading with largest number across the state.”

A delegates, Mr Sanya Ojo from ward 10 Ado local government said “we were worried because we have heard a lot of rumours that Dr Fayemi will be disqualified based on the the white paper that was produced by Governor Ayo Fayose against him.

“We even heard it from reliable sources that seven of the aspirants had earlier petitioned the screening committee that Dr. Fayemi should be disqualified from the gubernatorial race based on the outcome of the administrative panel set up by Fayose to indict him on some corruption charges.” He stated.

Ojo went further that “the aspirants hinged their petition on the fact that based on the outcome of the White paper reports, Fayemi was not even qualified to contest the election in the first instance. apart from this, the petitioners also claimed that Fayemi has also not resigned his position as the Minister of Mines and Steel Development before showing interest to contest the election as against the provisions of the law. But we thank God that in all these cases, the devil was put to shame”.

Another delegate, Odunayo Idowu from ward 10, Ado Local government said “In fact a particular aspirants had told us that by Wednesday last week, Fayemi would have been disqualified by the screening committee in Abuja, but we are very happy today to hear that Dr Fayemi has been given a clean bill to contest the election and he will win the primary and also the Governorship election.”

A woman delegate, Mrs Omololu Aladesiun from ward 10 in Ado Ekiti local government said: “it is worthy of celebration to hear that the screening committee in Abuja declared that Fayemi has all the right and clean bill to contest the election and that all the petitions written against him lack merit and that they were not enough reasons to disqualify him also that the white paper reports, was simply a mere political witch hunt that carries zero legal implications.

“On the context that the minister has yet to resign from his position as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria prior to the time of declaring to contest the gubernatorial election, the committee also averred that the petitioners were simply not adequately informed on the provisions of the law concerning the issue.

“They made it cleared that any contestant has at least 30 days to the governorship election before resigning his/her appointment/ position from any public office to contest the election.

So how should we not roll out drums and celebrate on this?, this is because it has signalled a total victory for Fayemi as the next Governor to be sworn in come October, 2018.” She added.

Earlier, while addressing the crowd at the meeting, Hon Omotosho said ” there is no doubt that with the overwhelming number of delegates here present, JKF is bound for victory in the oncoming primary election in Ekiti and subsequently the general election billed for July14.

“It is only JKF that has what it takes to chase out the monster at Okeayaba, and I can assure you, come Oct 2018, Dr John Kayode Fayemi will run all inclusive government. Once again I congratulate you for being part of the winning team”. Omotosho added.
