Match Report: Switzerland 2-2 Costa Rica, Costa Ricans bow out after gallant display against Switzerland

Summary

Costa Rica bows out of the 2018 World Cup gallantly after holding Switzerland to a two-all draw in their final Group E match at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Russia. Switzerland started slowly but still managed to draw first blood through Blerim Dzemaili and take a 1-0 lead into the break. The hard-fighting Costa Ricans clawed their way back in the second half to draw level from a corner which defender Kendall Waston headed home. The Swiss showed more resolve and dominance in the second period and got what they felt was a late winner through Josip Drmic. The Costa Rican got a stunning equalizer at the death through
Brazil remain group leaders and go through on 7 points while the Swiss finish second with5 points. Costa Rica come bottom of the group with 2 points and a goal behind Serbia who finish on 3 points.
