#Match Report: Peru Reign 2-0 in their Final Campaign Against Australia

Summary

Peru ended their World Cup campaign with a winning note after comfortably seeing off a dismal Australia side 2-0.Australia started off the better side and managed to curve out a chance in the 7th minute with Rogic finding space between the lines, feeding Juric on the shoulder of his centre-half but his cross was taken by the keeper before it could reach Max Kruse. Australia continued to dominate possesion in the early stages but the South Americans took the lead against the run of play.

Long ball for Guerrero that the Peru skipper did well to chase down and then cross for Carillo to smash home on the volley from the edge of the box. Peru with their first goal in this year’s World Cup. Australia Almost pulled one back on the half our mark but Tom Rogic’s shot after rounding two defenders was brilliantly saved by the Peru goalkeeper. There was More brilliance from Rogic, threading through a perfect through-ball for Kruse who cut back for Leckie but with the goal at his mercy two Peru defenders arrive from nowhere to scramble the ball behind.

Peru came out guns blazing in the second half and their efforts were rewarded five minutes in. Lovely interplay down the left saw Cueva cutting inside to shoot but the ball ricocheted off an Australian defender to Guerrero who clipped a neat poacher’s finish with his left foot for Peru’s second. After the second goal, Peru looked to control the rhythm of the match restricting their opponents to a few half chances the best being a Tim Cahill shot that looked destined to find the back of the net until a Peru defender intervened and blocked the ball with his back.

The result saw both team eliminated from the World Cup at the first hurdle meaning France and Denmark are two sides that qualify to the knockout stage from group C.
