Wikileaks releases CIA records, iPhone, Android, Samsung hacks released*
WikiLeaks has released over 8,000 pages of documents today. These detail CIA programs that break encryption in iPhones, Android phones, Samsung TVs and other devices.
As a result, the CIA has access to private messages on apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Weibo, and Confide. They did this by hacking the smartphones. The apps themselves are safe, however it is clear that if the CIA gets access to the device, nothing on the phone or device is safe.
Other CIA hacks detailed in today’s WikiLeaks disclosures include malware attacks to Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.
It is clear from the documents that the US Government has been purchasing hacks from third parties and sharing vulnerabilities with spy agencies around the world.
Edward Snowden reacted by saying: The CIA reports show the [U.S. Government] developing vulnerabilities in US products, then intentionally keeping the holes open. Reckless beyond words!
