ORTOM DEDICATE VICTORY TO BENUE PEOPLE



Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has dedicated his second term victory at the polls to the people of the state and his party, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).


Ortom who spoke on Sunday after he was declared winner of the governorship polls which was conducted in two phase, said his gratitude was foremost to God from whom the victory was made possible.

“I also dedicate this victory to the good people of Benue state and especially all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This victory is for all.  I call on all those who contested with me to join me so that together we shall build the Benue of our collective dream,” he said.

The governor also urged his supporters that they should celebrate with caution by engaging in behaviour which would  promote peace and reconciliation, stressing the need for them to avoid use of hurtful, insulting political and folk songs.

Ortom further said that he would setup a Peace, Truth and Reconciliation Committee which will enable everyone to find ways to “truly forgive one another, reconcile and usher in peace and development in Benue state.”

Earlier, there was wild jubilation in Makurdi metropolis shortly after the governor was announced winner of the election held in the state.

INEC state coalition and Returning officer, Professor Sabastine Maimako, had announced the winner at exactly 3:53pm.

The jubilating supporters consisting of commercial motorcycle riders, women, youths and other top government functionaries marched through the streets, singing and dancing as they hailed Ortom for his victory at the polls.
