KANO STATE POLICE DENIED THE TRANSFER OF THE POLICE WHO AREESTED DEPUTY GOV. GAWUNA

The Kano State Police Command has dismissed rumours that Mr Muhammad Wakili, the police commissioner who recently arrested the state’s deputy governor, Nasiru Gawuna, has been transferred.

Wakili had arrested Gawuna and the state’s commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, “over alleged threat to public peace” and “alleged disruption of the collation of results” during the March 9 governorship election in Kano.

Following the incident, rumours emerged that the police commissioner was transferred out of the state.

But in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, the command said, “The CP is still in Kano,” describing the rumour as being peddled by mischief makers.

Haruna also disclosed that the command has arrested three persons suspected of buying permanent voter cards (PVCs) from illegible voters at Gama Quarters in Nasarawa Local Government where the rerun governorship election in the state has been scheduled to take place.

The suspect’s names were given as Sa’adatu Isma’il, 39, of Brigade Quarters, Halima Abba, 55, of Tal’udu Quarters, and Mukhtar Shu’aibu of Dandishe Quarters.

Haruna said Isma’il and Abba “bought the PVCs each at the sum of N5,000 and above, eight PVCs were recovered from them with the cash sum of 10,000,” adding that Shu’aibu “confessed to have purchased two PVCs at the sum of N3,000 each.”

Speaking further, Haruna said: “Any person found to be engaging in the act should be promptly reported to the nearest Police station for arrest, investigation and prosecution accordingly.”
