Mikel Obi backs Chelsea to knock out Barcelona at Camp Nou

Mikel Obi backs Chelsea to knock out Barcelona at Camp Nou

Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, has backed his former team, Chelsea to beat Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League second leg tie of round 16.

The Blues have a difficult task to defeat the La Liga league leaders , having drawn 1-1 at homeED in the first leg.

Mikel believes Antonio Conte’s men can take inspiration from Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League triumph when they defeated the Catalan club in the semis.

“I have been played [sic] for Chelsea for 11 years and that comeback I will remember for the rest of my life,” Mikel told Tianjin Today Evening News.

“Obviously I will continue to support Chelsea as always and hopefully they will go through into the next round.

“I believe they will knock out Barcelona on their own ground, just like we did in 2012.”

The return leg at Camp Nou is set for March 14.

Over 100 girls missing after Boko Haram attack on school in Nigeria

Over 100 girls missing after Boko Haram attack on school in Nigeria

By Sharon Marris, News Reporter

More than 100 girls are unaccounted for after a Boko Haram terror attack in north-east Nigeria, officials have said.

The Islamist militant group stormed a school in the town of Dapchi, about 45 miles south of the border with Niger, on Monday.

Of the school's 906 students, some "110 have not been accounted for", according to Nigeria's information minister Lai Mohammed.

Since the attack, estimates of the number of girls missing have varied from around 50 to more than 100.

On Wednesday, the Yobe state government said dozens of the girls had been rescued, sparking celebration.

By Thursday, however, it had to admit most of them were still missing.

Image:The school is in the northeastern Nigerian state of Yobe

According to Nigerian news website The Cable, Mr Mohammed met government and security officials, along with community leaders on Sunday.

He said: "No stone will be left unturned in our determination to rescue these girls.

"Government will remain focused and resolute in the fight against insurgency to rescue the students and every Nigerian in their custody."

The minister also announced that police and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps would be deployed to schools.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian air force has been deployed to help in the search for the girls.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari said on Friday that the abduction of the girls was "a national disaster".

He added: "We are sorry that this could have happened and share your pain."

Witnesses told reporters that the attackers had asked for directions to the school for girls when they arrived in the town on Monday.

Image:Amina Usman, 15, escaped from the militants by hiding in the bushes

One of those who escaped the attack was Amina Usman, 15, who had been washing when she heard gunfire and saw what looked like soldiers in vehicles.

She ran into nearby bushes to hide before later finding a teacher and other escapees.

She said: "We were 65 girls in all.

"I thought I will never see my parents or family again."

In 2014, Boko Haram - which roughly translates as "Western education is forbidden" - abducted 276 girls from a boarding school in Chibok.

Many of the girls were forced to marry their kidnappers and more than 100 are still missing.

Boko Haram fighters have killed more than 20,000 people and forced around two million people to flee since their insurgency began almost a decade ago.

Mikel reacts to Chelsea's Champions League clash with Barca -

John Obi Mikel has tipped his former club Chelsea to go past Barcelona in the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Mikel, now with Tianjin Teda in the Chinese Super League, has been speaking about Chelsea’s chances in Europe’s premier club competition and after playing 1-1 in the first leg at Stamford Bridge this week, the Blues will be at the Nou Camp on March 14, and Mikel is optimistic about his old side’s chances.

The former Blues veteran has invoked the memory of their astonishing comeback win over the Catalan giants in Spain in 2012, when goals from Ramires and Fernando Torres saw them reach the Champions League final on away goals.

"I played for Chelsea for 11 years and that comeback I will remember for the rest of my life," Mikel told Tianjin Today Evening News.

"Obviously I will continue to support Chelsea as always and hopefully they will go through into the next round.

"I believe they will knock out Barcelona on their own ground, just like we did in 2012."

This is the fowl that swallow my diamond
A fowl swallowed a diamond in a poultry and the owner of the diamond contracted a man to find the fowl and kill it. When the man arrived at the poultry, there were more than a thousand fowl in the poultry and only one was sitting by itself away from the others. He killed the one sitting by itself and that was the exact one that had swallowed the diamond. The amazed owner of the diamond asked: "How did you know it was that fowl?" He responded: "Very easy! # When idiots get rich they don't mix with others."

President Buhari act was shameful and depressing!

Shameful and depressing!

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has been gradually – and tragically – demystifying himself since he took over from ex-President Goodluck Jonathan nearly three years ago. I grew up sharing a widespread belief that he was an uncompromising disciplinarian who wasn’t willing to tolerate corruption in any shape or form.

Like millions of other Nigerians, I regarded him as a super-strict senior soldier who would save us from venal, unpatriotic saboteurs who were undermining our economy, poisoning our society and mortgaging our collective future. Looking back, I was warned that he wasn’t the Messiah I yearned for.

I particularly recall a friend who had worked with Buhari when he was in Opposition saying (after I’d enthusiastically explained why I was planning to vote for him in 2015) that “Buhari isn’t as tough as you think. I never once saw him put his foot down when some of his followers needed to be controlled.”

Meanwhile, other critics accused Buhari of other weaknesses, including nepotism and tribalism…and expressed the view that his no-nonsense, principled reputation was undeserved. It was said in certain quarters that Major-General Tunde Idiagbon, the de facto Vice President, had been the realstrong man and driving force during Buhari’s famous first stint as Head of State (1983-1985).

I was told on numerous occasions that Buhari would disappoint me. But some of us have developed a bad habit of refusing to take alternative viewpoints that we don’t want to hear seriously; and I chose to ignore these prophets of doom.

I took the view that there was nothing wrong with giving a candidate the benefit of the doubt. For every anti-Buhari voice, there was a pro-Buhari voice. And as I’ve pointed out before on this page, I am not a fortune teller….and could not be sure how Buhari would conduct himself in the corridors of power.

But guess what?

Within weeks of Buhari’s return to the top office in the land, rumours about dodgy dealings within his administration were rife. And he didn’t help matters by bestowing too many major appointments on relatives and fellow Katsinans.

We have constantly been assured that Buhari and his team are sincerely and aggressively fighting the cancer that is corruption, but the “fight” seems to be as much about vindictive political score-settling as anything else; and Buhari has displayed an unfortunate penchant for overlooking the dubious practices of his favourites. The recent reinstatement of the NHIS boss being a classic example of his blind allegiance to people who should not be public servants.

Long story short: Hardly anyone thinks that this is an ethical government.

And now a really depressing bombshell has landed on us from a respected external source: According to the latest Corruption Perception Index, CPI, released by Transparency International, TI, on Wednesday, corruption has worsened since Buhari stood up in Eagle Square on May 29, 2015 and assured an intently listening world that he would “belong to everybody and nobody”!

We were ranked 136th (out of 180 countries surveyed) in 2016; and we’ve now dropped to 148. New Zealand came first and Denmark second; Finland, Norway and Switzerland shared the third position.

Other sub-Saharan African countries that are ranked higher than Nigeria are Botswana – whose joint 34 rank is the best in Africa – as well as Rwanda (joint 48th) and Nambia (joint 53rd).

If I were in Buhari’s shoes, I would hang my head in shame and not come up with any excuses and just say sorry to those he has let down!

A Vanguard reader has told me off for voting for Buhari as follows:

08036335129- Anonymous

I disagree with you when you tried to excuse yourself from blame for supporting Buhari during the election on the grounds that you can’t predict someone’s behaviour. You like most fanatical Buhari supporters at the time of the election never showed any proper sense of history.

You allowed yourself to be carried away by APC acid propaganda against Jonathan without bothering to equally take a look at the negative historic facts which were being published almost daily about Buhari. His tribalism, nepotism, religious fanaticism, sectionality, corruption…

Is it too late for him to salvage his image and placate folks who are fed up with him before the next election? Well, nothing is impossible. But I’m not optimistic. He needs to urgently address concerns about the escalating Fulani herdsmen scandal. He needs to prove that he can be unbiased, untribalistic and flexible.

He needs to pay more attention to the anger and hunger of large chunks of the electorate. He needs to show Southern and Middle Belt Christians that he can empathise with them on a profound level. He needs – even in his Muslim Northern heartland – to deliver more hope and concrete progress.

He needs to sack, with immediate effect, some of the hated eminences who are lurking behind his throne and ruining his credibility (even his wife, our dear First Lady, Madame Aisha, can’t stand them!).

Buhari really needs to act!

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, a group known as the ……………. has put in place the necessary

BUT leopards, especially elderly ones who have had decades in which to become rigidly set in their ways, rarely change their spots! So I’m not holding my breath that positive new winds will suddenly start gusting from the presidential Villa.

one of the greatest minds in football

one of the greatest minds in football

The former England international defender appears set to be overlooked for the Oxford United manager's job, much to his chagrin

Sol Campbell says he is one of the "greatest minds in football" and insists that he should be in a managerial job.

The former Arsenal and Tottenham defender applied for the vacant position at Oxford United, but reports suggest that ex-Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy is in pole position to take the post.

Campbell has subsequently hit out at the fact that he has yet to find a managerial job, and insists that he would take to any lower-league job like a duck to water.

"I did go [for the Oxford job] and they didn't accept me," he told the Arsenal podcast Highbury & Heels.

"Maybe it was a lack of experience, things like that, but it's a full circle. Experience? How do I get experience? Well, I need a job to get experience.

"I don't want to go too low that it's a struggle, and I don't want to go too low that I'm under someone and thinking 'what am I doing here?' I would rather be managing a club myself.

Article continues below

"I'm confident and it's not like it's rocket science to run a football club, especially when you get to that level. If you're intelligent enough and a quick learner you will learn pretty soon, within two or three games, what the team needs, training-wise, to survive in that league, get better in that league, to get in the play-offs or even win the league.

"I'm intelligent enough, it's not like I played on a fox and dog pitch all my life. I can't believe some people, I'm one of the greatest minds in football and I'm being wasted because of a lack of experience or 'maybe he talks his mind too much'.

"Go to Germany, they love people who speak their minds. They got the jobs. I'm sorry that I've got a mind, but don't be scared of that. That should be something you want at your club, but obviously not."

If you're in the market for a new phone your choices available right now are pretty good, but it's always the way that as soon as you take the plunge and upgrade something better comes along and you regret your decision. In this article we outline the phones that will be released in 2018 to help you decide whether or not to wait.

Apple iPhone 2018

OK, so we don't know what it'll be called. iPhone 11? XS? X Plus? 9? Whatever it's called, you're probably going to want one.

Rumours suggest the iPhone X design could get two more sizes, mini and Plus, with upgrades to the internals of the X itself. Others suggest there could be cheaper alternatives that keep the design.

Either way, expect more than one iPhone this September. Apple had to play catch up with the iPhone X, and it won't want to do that again. Likely with an A12 processor, better battery tech, iOS 12 and faster charging, this is going to be the best iPhone. Again.

Read more about the iPhone 2018 here.

Apple iPhone SE 2

The iPhone SE is Apple's small and cheap iPhone, the only one still on sale with a 4in screen but well overdue an update. What on earth is it doing in a round-up of the *best* new phones coming in 2018, you might wonder.

Well, let us explain. The iPhone SE 2 we've all been waiting for may not be the cheap, small iPhone we're expecting. In fact it may be an iPhone X SE, with a larger screen and higher price tag.

According to rumours the new SE will still be cheaper than the iPhone X, but cheap is not a word we'd associate with a phone that might still cost £649.

It's likely the phone will see a 6.01in LCD screen with an iPhone X-like notch, but it will lose 3D Touch to cut down costs.

Read more iPhone SE 2 rumours here.

Google Pixel 3

Three new Google Pixel phones are expected to land on 4 October 2018, with one of them potentially poised as a rival to the iPhone X.

Codenamed Crosshatch, Albacore and Blueline, we know that these new pure Android phones will run the to-be-announced Android 9.0 P, and that they will likely carry the 10nm (second-gen) Snapdragon 845 processor and feature 18:9 pOLED panels.

Read more about the Pixel 3 here.

Huawei P20

Originally tipped for February's MWC tradeshow, but now all but confirmed for launch at a separate Paris event on 27 March, the P20 will be successor to the company's current flagship, the P10.

In common with the Mate 10 it will likely get the Kirin 970 chip, which Huawei claims delivers 25 times better CPU performance and 50 times greater energy efficiency.

Rumours suggest it could copy sister company Honor's latest flagship and ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Read more about the Huawei P11 (aka Huawei P20) here.

LG G7

The LG G7 will not launch at MWC 2018 as originally expected, but is instead arrive in June - potentially with a new name.

Rumours suggest we'll see a new 6.1in FullVision MLCD+ display, along with the Snapdragon 845, 4GB of RAM, 64GB storage, dual-cameras, wireless charging and more.

At MWC instead expect to see a new version of the LG V30+ with enhanced AI.

Read more about the LG G7 here.

LG V40

We noted above that LG's flagship phone launches may no longer be annual, but we're still expecting an update to the V series in 2018.

It is rumoured that we'll see an update to the LG V30+ at MWC 2018 in the form of an LG V30+'a', which features enhanced AI. The LG V40 wouldn't be announced until later in the year - potentially September in line with IFA 2018.

Rumours are thin on the ground, though it's likely we're looking at another OLED FullVision phablet here with a 6in screen and some tasty hardware. However, it's worth pointing out that the G7 is now expected to feature a 6.1in MLCD+ display.

The Snapdragon 845 is naturally top of the list, though we could also see some storage and memory enhancements.

Read more about the LG V40 here.

Microsoft Surface Phone

Microsoft's Surface Phone has been the stuff of rumours for more than two years, and only a few months ago we believed all hopes were dashed with news that Microsoft was killing Windows Phone.

But the company has filed fresh patents for a foldable mobile device, reigniting rumours on the possibility of a Surface Phone. It's still no more than a maybe, making estimating a release date impossible. But if the Surface Phone does eventually see the light of day, we could see a foldable phablet to rival the Galaxy Note X.

Read more about the Surface Phone here.

Moto Z3

Three new models in the Moto Z family are tipped to arrive this summer, with the Moto Z3 and Z3 Play expected in early June and the Moto Z3 Force in late-July.

All three are thought to have 6in 'borderless' (18:9) displays, though the Force will feature a Quad-HD resolution while the Z3 and Play are stuck on full-HD. It will also have the most powerful spec, with the Snapdragon 845 inside.

No fingerprint scanner is visible on the leaked images - is Motorola ditching it for an iris scanner, or are we finally about to see mainstream phones with fingerprint scanners embedded in their screens?

Support for Moto Mods is a given, but there's talk of a new 5G Moto Mod that lets you bolt on the latest mobile tech.

Read more about the upcoming Moto Z3 line-up here.

Nokia 9

The first Nokia Android phone was announced a year ago, with its successor (the Nokia 6 2018) announced on 5 January. But we're still waiting for an announcement on the Nokia 9, which is the flagship in the company's line-up. Rumour has it the big reveal could be coming on Sunday 25 February at MWC, with Nokia holding a press conference in the afternoon.

The Nokia 9 was thought to be an upgraded version of the Nokia 8 with a larger 5.7in 18:9 display and an extra 2GB of RAM, but the latest leaked images show a standard 16:9 display.

We should see a dual-camera - potentially 13Mp with separate RGB and monochrome sensors. A 13Mp selfie camera may also be found at the front. This is the setup seen in the Nokia 8, which also boasts Bothie photos - snaps that combine images from the front- and rear cameras to create a fuller picture.

Also new in the Nokia 8 is 360-degree Ozo audio recording, which we're sure will also make its way to the Nokia 9.

The Nokia 9 is thought to be the flagship in Nokia's Android phone family, and as such will likely run the 10nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU, plus 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Read more about the Nokia 9

Nokia 10

New rumours have surfaced on yet another Nokia flagship, although they're best described as "sketchy".

A Nokia 10 could be released at IFA 2018 (running from 31 August) with a five-lens primary camera and the Snapdragon 845 inside.

Read more about the Nokia 10 here.

OnePlus 6

The phone company that was once known only by geeks is about to come a lot more popular in the smartphone world, but OnePlus flagships are worth a look for more than their exclusivity.

Once marketed as 'flagship killers', the OnePlus 6 will be the latest in a growing line of premium smartphones that take one look at the best the phone market has to offer and go one better, and at a lower price.

Having already taken Samsung in its sights, OnePlus is on to Apple. Or, more specifically, the iPhone X's Face ID feature. OnePlus is tipped to develop its own version of the face-recognition technology in its upcoming flagship. And though the OnePlus 5T supports face recognition, the OnePlus 6 will make it secure enough for use with mobile payments.

Despite likely coming in at a comparatively low £449 when it arrives in June (though we have seen rumours of a March launch), the OnePlus 6 will pack some serious hardware, including the Snapdragon 845.

Read more about the OnePlus 6 here.

Razer Phone 2

The original Razer phone, the first smartphone built for gamers and to support a 120Hz refresh rate, was met with huge interest from consumers. So it's good to hear a second version is in the planning, and likely to be with us in September. Its launch may also coincide with the release of Project Linda.

Theories on what to expect are still rather thin on the ground, but there's talk of an improved camera setup.

Read more Razer Phone 2 rumours here.

Samsung Galaxy S9 & Galaxy S9+

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be the biggest and baddest of the phones announced in 2018, continuing to perfect what have so far shaped up to be the best phones of 2017. Expect to see an announcement on Sunday 25 February, with a release date in March.

New in both models is likely to be the 10nm (second-gen) Snapdragon 845 or 8nm Exynos 9810 processor, with a dual-lens rear camera on the Plus, and fingerprint scanners embedded into the Infinity display.

Performance will definitely get a boost, and we might see Samsung finally go above the 4GB of RAM seen in the company's previous flagships. The design is not likely to change significantly, and hopefully neither will the price.

You can read more Galaxy S9 rumours here.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Mini

You may have read rumours about a Galaxy S8 Mini. However, as we approach the Galaxy S9 release date it's looking more likely that if such a phone exists it will be the Galaxy S9 Mini, not the Galaxy S8 Mini.

There's very little to go on right now, but one mobile leakster has suggested Samsung is working on a 5in screen phone with a full-screen Infinity Display.

It sounds a lot like a potential Galaxy S9 Mini, but it could equally be an update to the Galaxy A series. We'll have to wait and see.

Read more about the Galaxy S9 Mini here.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

When it launches in August the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, codenamed 'Crown', could really steal the Android Crown. It's expected to feature some of the tech we didn't get to see in the Samsung Galaxy S9, such as an under-glass fingerprint scanner.

More interestingly, the Note 9 could be the phone to offer a truly bezel-less display, with patents suggesting Samsung is experimenting with an all-glass front into which the camera and sensors are also built-in.

Read more Note 9 rumours here.

Samsung Galaxy Note X

The bendable phone will finally become a reality in early 2018 if rumours are to be believed, though Samsung suggests we may be waiting a bit longer.

The Galaxy Note X, previously known as Project Valley, is thought to be a smartphone with a dual-screen (one on each side) that folds out to reveal a 7in tablet. An 8in tablet that folds up into a 5in phone has also been rumoured.

Read more Samsung Galaxy Note X rumours here.

Snapchat Smartphone

Okay, let's be honest here, we're not actually entirely convinced that a Snapchat smartphone will ever exist, let alone become a reality in 2018. We think it more likely the company is working on a connected camera, but there is certainly talk of a Snapchat phone.

Should a Snapchat smartphone come to reality it will likely be the ultimate selfie phone, and perhaps the first phone to feature a 360-degree camera.

Read more Snapchat smartphone rumours here.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium/Sony Xperia XZ Pro

Sony is thought to be unveiling the Premium version of its Sony Xperia XZ1 at February's MWC 2018 trade show, which would place its launch date on 26 February 2018. Sony's press conference takes place on Monday morning, so check back for full details then.

There is also talk of a Sony Xperia XZ Pro and, as ever with Sony, we cannot be 100 percent sure of its naming scheme. Either way, a flagship phablet is incoming.

The phone will likely launch alongside the Sony Xperia XZ1S and another Sony phablet, the latter with a 5.7in 4K display and an 18:9 'bezel-less' design.

Less is known on the core hardware, with contradictory sources claiming it will feature the Snapdragon 835 or 845, 4- or 6GB of RAM and 64- or 128GB of storage. Our money is on the former, since Samsung may well be again holding the exclusive on the new Qualcomm chip.

Read more about the Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium (Sony Xperia XZ Pro) here.

Sony Xperia XZ2

The Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are likely to launch at IFA 2018 in September (provided Sony doesn't mix up its naming scheme again).

We should at last see a new design, Sony has promised, and hopefully one that includes slimmer bezels and a super-widescreen display.

Both XZ2 and Compact should feature the same core hardware, which includes the Snapdragon 845 and up to 6GB of RAM.

There's also talk that we could finally see a dual-camera in a Sony flagship.

Read more Sony Xperia XZ2 rumours here.

Xiaomi Mi7

This is Xiaomi's upcoming flagship. The Mi7 should arrive in April 2018, undercutting the price of its UK rivals and offering much the same hardware - perhaps even better.

While flagships popular in the UK such as the upcoming Galaxy S9 are expected to stick with a fingerprint scanner, the Xiaomi Mi7 could be one of the first phones to embed a fingerprint scanner directly in the screen.

Other firsts for Xiaomi will likely include the addition of wireless charging, and the Mi7 could see an 18:9 panel with a full-HD (2160x1080) resolution.

There's likely to be both a standard and Plus model, with both running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. The base models will feature 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage, so performance should be mind-blowing.

Read more rumours about the Xiaomi Mi7 here.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

We're still a long way from the potential Mi Mix 3 release date, but we could see an updated version of the Mi Mix 2 this week. Xiaomi is tipped to announce the Mi Mix 2S at MWC 2018 in February. It will be more or less identical to the Mix 2 but with the Snapdragon 845 inside.

The Mi Mix 3 will come later in the year - likely October - and we could see a new design if a leaked image of a rear panel is anything to go by.

This may be nothing more than a prototype, but if it sees the light of day we will see a Mi Mix with more rounded corners than ever, and a vertical dual-camera and central fingerprint scanner at the rear.

Recently leaked information suggests the Mi Mix 3 will come with the 10nm (second-gen) Snapdragon 845 processor.

Lyta Shows, He truly Loves his People

The newly signed YBNL nation artist Opeyemi Lyta took his time to show some love with his indigenous people of Ajegunle city usually called AJ city.

The boy told his People to calm down and make them know that he saw there messages and well wishes but due to time factor, he couldn't reply all their messages,  He promised to reply them as soon as possible.

It's rare to find someone like Lyta who still have the love of his people after getting famous,  We have encountered some artist that immediately change after getting to a certain height, they forget the people that stand by them when they are nothing. They now realized those people are not worth to walk around with. They make people regret the fact that they know them.  Which is not suppose to be.
But this young artist mention in his track title jeje(tekno- yawa cover).
" I swear I no go forget ooo,
Where I'm coming from.
I no go regret ooo"
"...Ajegunle boy wey dy runtown
Me Neva Neva run back
No no Neva.... "
Lyta truly shows that he meant what he said earlier.  And the street show him love too.

The Chelsea player won the top prize in the country's football federation awards ceremony held in Lagos on Monday evening

Victor Moses has been crowned 2018 NFF Player of the Year after edging out Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and Lobi Stars’ Anthony Okpotu.

The 27-year-old had a stellar 2016-17 season helping Chelsea win the English Premier League title which meant a return to continental football for the London side.

More remarkably was his transformation - under Antonio Conte - from an out-and-out winger to a wing-back and also, having to enjoy a season where the injury problems that had threatened his promising career were curtailed as he appeared in a career-high 40 games, scoring four goals in all competitions for the Blues.

He was also one of the key players as Nigeria became the first African nation to book a ticket to the Russia 2018 World Cup. Moses played in four of six World Cup qualifying clashes and scored thrice amid several dazzling moments.

The former Wigan man has continued from where he left off last season, continuing to be an integral part of Conte’s setup.

Moses has played 23 games, finding the back of the net on two occasions so far this term.

'I try and do my best' - Hazard aspiring to reach Messi's level in Champions League clash

Barcelona visit Chelsea on Tuesday, and the Belgian hopes for a different result than the last time he faced the Argentina legend

Eden Hazard knows he must shine in matches like Chelsea's Champions League last-16 showdown with Barcelona on Tuesday if he wants to be considered in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hazard starred in Chelsea's 2014-15 and 2016-17 title-winning campaigns in the Premier League, but there is a lingering sense that Europe's top competition is yet to see the best of the Belgium playmaker.

Speaking at a news conference ahead of Barcelona's visit to Stamford Bridge, Hazard reminded reporters of his fine displays in the group stage against Atletico Madrid this season, but knows where he stands in the overall pecking order.
"I played again Messi once in the World Cup against Argentina and we lost the game. I hope tomorrow is going to be different," said the 27-year-old, recalling Belgium's disappointment at Brazil 2014.

"It's good to be compared with the greatest ever, Messi or Ronaldo, but I'm completely different.

"We play in a different league. I try to do my job and try to reach their level, because they are the best in the world. Every season I try and do my best.

"When we play these kind of games, we need to perform. If you want to be one of the best, you have to play well in the big games.

"Every game I try and play my best football. Every week in the Premier League. Last year we didn't play Champions League, but this year we are back and I played a few good games — Atletico Madrid away, Roma, here against Madrid.

"You want to shine when you play the best in the world. If I want to reach that level, I need to do a great game tomorrow."

Not for the first time, recent transfer speculation has linked Hazard with a move to Barcelona's sworn rivals Real Madrid at the end of this season.

The player himself, however, insists he is happy at Chelsea.

"First, I see the game tomorrow. We are going to face Barca," he replied when asked about Los Blancos.

"I have played for Chelsea for now six years. I'm just happy here. Like you say, I have two years left on my contract.

"I'm happy here, my family is happy here. Now I'm just focused on the game [and until] the end of the season.

"I don't think much about the future because you never know what happens in the future, but I'm just happy here."

Neymar will join Real Madrid'

Neymar will join Real Madrid'

Real Madrid defender Marcelo believes Neymar will join the Spanish champions eventually.

Neymar has consistently been linked with a return to Spain – after leaving Barcelona last summer – but to Barca’s arch-rivals, Real, and his Brazil teammate, Marcelo, has tipped him to join Los Blancos in the future.

"I think Neymar will play for Real Madrid one day," Marcelo told Esporte Interativo ahead of Madrid's showdown with PSG in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday.

"Would Neymar fit at Real Madrid? He would fit, for sure.

"It would be great if he came to Real Madrid.

"In my opinion the great players have to play at this club."

Neymar only completed his world-record €222 million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain last August but according to Goal, PSG have promised Neymar that they will sell him to Real if they win the Champions League this season.

Real president Florentino Perez has previously fuelled talk of a bid for the Brazilian by claiming that he has a better chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, and breaking the duopoly of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, at Real.

“It’s difficult to see who will take the leadership away from Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi,” said Perez in December.

“Being at Madrid would make it easier for Neymar to win it [the Ballon d’Or]. Madrid is a club that gives big players what they need.”

PDP sweet-talks Benue using herders, farmers’ crisis

PDP sweet-talks Benue using herders, farmers’ crisis

We are true coalition of Nigerians – PDP

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose on Thursday visited Benue State, being the second PDP governor on a show of solidarity with mouth-watering gestures to the APc-controlled state.

Fayose, who was received by Ortom on Thursday, donated N10 million for the upkeep of the displaced people just as his Rivers state counterpart Nyesom Wike gave N200 million.

Both governors declared support for the Anti-Grazing Law enacted by the state government in 2017.

Fayose warned that the law “must not be compromised’’.

The Ekiti Governor said there was a federal conspiracy against the law and criticized the Federal Government and security agencies for poorly handling threats to the state prior to the New Year’s Day attack which left 73 indigenes of the state dead.

Governor of Rivers State, Mr Nyesom Wike, had earlier visited Benue and donated N200m to the state government.

Fayose advised Benue people to rally round Ortom, in defending the law enacted to end lingering skirmishes between farmers and herdsmen in the state.

He said the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, vested in the state the powers to enact laws for the administration of their states and said such rights were supreme.

” Nobody can take such powers away from you, they are constitutional; stand by your law, the law is for your state and not for the federal government.”

He likened the Jan.1 attacks on some communities in the state to terrorism and called on the people to stand together to defeat terror from the land.

” No terrorism is worse than what happened in your state, I therefore, call on the federal government to rise up to its responsibility of providing security to lives and property.

” The federal government should stop this double standard game; terrorism is evil and should be roundly condemned.”

Fayose, who was the first governor in the country to enact and implement the anti-open grazing law, said he implementation was not without challenges.

He said as a sitting governor, which ever political party the governor was considering joining, would still give him the right of first refusal in his bid to contest.

Responding, Ortom commended his Ekiti counterpart for the visit and said it was a gesture of friendliness.

He said the Benue killings marked a paradigm shift in the politics of the country, disclosing that the political affiliations would never remain the same again.

Ortom said the killings were an eye opener for him, explaining that he would continue to fight against injustice in the country regardless of intimidation.

He called on the federal government to arrest those behind the Benue massacre.

He said the state was not ready to cede its lands for grazing and advised the I-G to resign his appointment since he was no longer an unbiased umpire.

The governor said the state was overwhelmed by the humanitarian crises from the attack.

” We have an internally displaced population of about 100,000 people with about 7000 coming from the refugee crises in Cameroon.”

He commended the National Assembly for rejecting the ” one-sided report from the I-G and said the world was watching the events in Benue.

Wike of Rivers on Wednesday donated N200 million to Benue Government for the upkeep of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Wike made the donation when he led other stakeholders in Rivers on a condolence visit to Ortom in Makurdi.

He noted that the challenge of taking care of the IDPs was huge, adding that the donation was meant to cushion suffering of the displaced persons.

He said that he identifies with the pains of benue people as many women had become widows and children turned to orphans, adding that he would continue to render support to displaced persons in the country.

He urged the people to rally round Ortom, to enable him to tackle the security challenge posed by herdsmen in the state.

He said that all hands must be on deck in order to successfully overcome the insecurity challenge in the country.

The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) commended the two governors for their political manoeuvring through the visit to Benue.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja commended the two governors for extending assistance to victims of the recent violent attacks and other Internally Displaced Persons in the state.

Ologbondiyan said that the gesture by the two governors underlines PDP’s commitment to the well-being of all Nigerians in line with its undying ideology and vision of its founding fathers.

He added that gesture was commendable because the assistance was for a state under the governorship of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ologbondiyan however said that it was disheartening that the Presidency was yet to visit Benue, adding that APC Governors only visited, after much entreaties.

Ologbondiyan urged the people of Benue state to be vigilant and continue to work with their leaders, while assuring of PDP’s support always.
